itinerary
Our chosen route follows the C26 for its spectacular views and a quick pitstop in Solitair before we reach Sesriem where we set up camp and visit Sesriem Canyon in the late afternoon.
Overnight in Sesriem.
Today we head into the Namib sand sea so its up early and off we go after a quick coffee and cereal breakfast.
At the 2×4 Parking we set out on foot, taking our daypacks, including breakfast packs which we enjoy picnic style in the wind shadow of a dune overlooking Hidden Vlei. From here we continue our hike to the foot of Big Daddy, a true giant amongst giants, before starting the long sandy ascent to the crest high above the desert floor, overlooking world famous Deadvlei with its iconic dry camel-thorn trees.
Feeling exhilarated from the view, we walk, slide, run, tumble and roll our way down the sandy side of Big Daddy until we reach the white tone of Deadvlei and onwards to the Heart of Sossusvlei. There we relax in the shade of old acacia trees, enjoying our well-deserved lunch before we transfer back to our camp at Sesriem…. just in time for ice-cream and a refreshing dip in the pool after a long, hot day.
Sundowners taste particularly good here, whilst watching the last rays of sun lighting up the contrasting layers of the Tsaris mountains in the distance.
Overnight in Sesriem.
This morning we enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we break up camp and start our journey back to Windhoek. This time our route passes the beautiful Naukluft Mountains and culturally fascinating town of Rehoboth.
