itinerary
Our trip starts in Windhoek and takes us to our campsite at the +/- 250 km distant Naukluft Mountains, the fortress of Mountain Zebras.
Upon arrival, we pitch camp and explore the area a little while our guides prepare dinner which we enjoy together.
After an early breakfast we head out to the nearby trailhead of the Waterkloof hiking trail, eyes searching for the tracks of a leopard who visited the area during the night, ears filled with birdsong announcing the sun’s arrival and baboons loudly announcing that they escaped the leopard visitor once more.
The Waterkloof Trail winds through green gorges with natural rock pools of crystal clear mountain water, up rocky ridges to deliver us at stunning viewpoints overlooking the harsh, dry landscape of the surrounding Namib, drinking in the colours with our eyes and the peace with our souls.
The Namibian sun ensures that one doesn’t dawdle too long but head for shade-with-a-view to enjoy lunch before slowly heading back down the mountain to camp and the nearby rock pools for a swim.
A good old Namibian braai (BBQ) in the evening rounds of another great day.
Breakfast, break up camp and off to the start of the +/- 10 km Olive Trail, named after the wild olive trees that occur in the area.
Our trail leads us up and over the plateau before taking us down through a gorge flanked by stone walls reaching straight up to the sky.
Some scrambling and fun, chain supported sections leads us to the track ending our hike back at the vehicle where we have a quick lunch before departing for Windhoek, arriving in the early evening.
