itinerary
Transfer from Capetown to Algeria Campsite.
Upon arrival we set up our camp and enjoy our lunch before setting out to the Middelberg Waterfall where we cool down in the natural pool while enjoying the views, +/- 4 hours excursion.
After breakfast we pack up camp before we transfer via Uitkyk pass to our next camp at Sanddrif. From here we visit San rock art in the area and hike the Lot’s Wife trail for a first introduction to the incredible rock formations in this area.
Hike +/- 4 hours
This trail is a highlight of the Cederberg as it winds its way up the mountain to imposing red sandstone cliffs which, through millennia, were cracked, split and eroded by the elements themselves into fantastical shapes.
Our route takes us over exposed ledges(with safety rope) and some sections where basic scrambling is required… also some squeezing between, wriggling under and crawling onto huge boulders add to the adventure… laughter and happiness comes automatically in this wonderland.
Once through the Crack, we cross the plateau and final ascent to the iconic Wolfberg Arch.
We make our way back to camp via a different route, grab our swimwear before we head over to the nearby Maalgate where we recharge weary bodies in the spectacular natural rockpools.
After a leisurely breakfast we pack up camp before we head south to our next destination, Schoongezicht Farm in the Koue Bokkeveld.
Our first stop on route is the Stadsaal (City Hall) Caves and nearby San Rock art where we spend some time exploring and admiring this area which has been home to humans for thousands of years.
After passing through some prime agricultural land, we arrive at Schoongezicht Farm in time for lunch and setting up camp for our last night on the mountain.
The afternoon can be spent at the nearby natural pools followed by a short hike to sites where fossils are to be seen.
Today we make our way back to Cape Town with a short stop in Ceres.
